Zone
A defined area of land or part of a building which is allocated for a particular purpose. e.g. development plans may allocate areas of land for different uses and may distinguish between areas of floor space of a building and ascribe different values to them.
Zoning
The division of a city or town into zones local government, and the application of regulations relating to the structural, architectural design and intended use of buildings within such designated zones.
Zoning ordinance
A local ordinance that defines the set of laws and regulations controlling the use of land and construction, improvements in a given area or zone and use of real estate for the health, morals, safety and welfare of the general public.
